Laser Engraved Acacia Wood: The “Save Our Strays” Board

Acacia wood board engraved with a dog in a kennel and the words Save Our Strays, displayed on a dark stone slab.

Natural wood, detailed engraving and a message that speaks for itself. Our latest Burnt Toast workshop piece brings all three together on an acacia wood board, pairing a dog illustration with the words “Save Our Strays.”

The finished design balances fine detail with bold lettering, letting the wood’s contrasting grain remain part of the picture.

A closer look at the engraving

On the left, a circular illustration shows a dog sitting in a kennel, framed by plants and delicate linework. On the right, large serif lettering gives the message room to stand out.

That contrast is what makes the layout work: an illustration worth looking at closely, alongside wording you can read at a glance. Both sit within the board’s softly rounded outline, with space around the engraving so the design doesn’t feel crowded.

Working with the character of acacia

This board has striking bands of light and dark wood running across its surface. Rather than covering them, the laser engraving allows that natural character to show through.

Look closely and you can see how the grain passes through the lettering and illustration. The result feels part of the wood itself, rather than a design simply placed on top.

For us, that relationship between material and artwork is a big part of the appeal of personalised wood engraving.

Your idea, given the Burnt Toast treatment

A name, a meaningful message, an illustration or a business identity can be the starting point for a custom engraving project.
