Laser cutting or laser engraving: which do you need?
Cutting creates shapes and separate components. It is the approach behind the outlines, openings and layers in decorative artwork and freestanding displays. Engraving adds detail to a suitable surface, such as lettering, a photograph or an illustration. Some projects combine both processes.
You do not need to decide the process yourself. Send a reference photograph or sketch and tell us how the finished piece will be used. We can discuss whether cutting, engraving or a combination is the right route.
Personalised gifts, layered portraits and decorations
A layered portrait is a different way to preserve a favourite moment. Contrasting shapes build an image with depth, while a meaningful date or short message can make it personal. Clear reference images help us assess which details will work at your chosen size.

Materials and custom laser work in Redcar
Our workshop uses the xTool P2S, F1 and M1 Ultra. We assess the exact material, finish, thickness and dimensions for each enquiry. Suitable wood and acrylic can be options for cutting and engraving; slate, glass and compatible metal surfaces offer different engraving or marking possibilities.
Not every material can be both cut and engraved, and the same design can look different on different surfaces. We do not offer metal cutting or laser-process PVC, vinyl or unidentified plastics. Please ask before buying a blank or sending us an item: a material or coating may make it unsuitable, and testing may be needed.
Signs and small-batch work for businesses
If you need a sign, shaped display, branded gift or a small run of matching pieces, send your logo along with the intended size and quantity. Let us know whether it is for indoor or outdoor use and whether you are supplying the material. We will check suitability and discuss preparation, finish and pricing with you.
